Noni and Scopoletin

Scopoletin is renowned for its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties.

First isolated by Eykman in 1884, scopoletin belongs to a class of phytochemicals (coumarins). Coumarins have been known to contain anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and neuroprotective properties.

Besides being renowned for its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties, the body also utilizes scopoletin for smooth joint movement. 

Scopoletin seems to regulate the blood pressure: when the blood pressure is high, scopoletin helps to lower it and when it is too low it can help raise it. In other words, Noni helps maintain and support an already within normal range blood pressure.

Scopoletin regulates the hormone serotonin to keep levels elevated. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that regulates mood, sleep, hunger, temperature and more.

The challenge with Noni Fruit

Fresh Noni fruit has almost no shelf life. Within hours of becoming fully ripe the fruit begins to rot and ferment, thereby weakening the potency of the beneficial compounds. Therefore, unless you live in the tropics it is not possible to enjoy all the benefits of the fresh raw fruit. Most big box stores carry noni juice which simply put is very weak in nutritional value, potency and health benefits.

Noni's potency is in the raw pulp, in the phytonutrients and compounds that are solid in form. Making a juice discards the pulp and tosses out the majority of the beneficial compounds.
